Mucho fun times, Mucho love.

Roller Coaster Wedding?  What was THAT all about?

As you know, we're getting married this coming November in Isla Mujeres, Mexico.  It is the day Sarah and I will be married, it will be the day that we celebrate our anniversary, it will be the day we hope our friends and family can join us and support us as we enter our union together.  It is the day we have been looking forward to sharing with you for over a year!

As anyone who has had a destination may have guessed, it has always been our plan to take the legal steps toward marriage in Seattle once we came back from Mexico - the red tape and extra expenses to get 'legally married' in Mexico far outweighed the benefits, but our plans obviously changed.  Sarah, on a whim, entered a contest in which she wrote a paragraph explaining the most romantic thing that had ever happened to her (all the gory/mushy details can be found here).  We were lucky enough to win (go Sarah!).

We are extremely grateful and excited to get the opportunity to have life made a little easier for us: we won some extra money for our rings, received a little help to go on a honeymoon, and the radio station threw us a wonderful little reception on the West coast.  Moreover, we were also fortunate to have Sarah's grandmother witness the legal aspect of our union in a more celebratory atmosphere, which was important to us as she will be unable to make the trip down to Mexico.

September 15th was wildly fun, and definitely an awesome way to make things legal, but definitely not what we're considering to be 'our wedding.'  It was excellent to have so many friends with us, and there were thick layers of love and fun in the air, but we won't be wearing our rings or consider ourselves married until November, which is really where our focus lies - we are so looking forward to it.  Thanks so much for your constant support and love.  This has been one weird and experience!

Why a destination wedding?

We have always had a love of travel. Just in the 5 years we have been together we have traveled to China, Hong Kong, Taipei, Singapore, Korea, the Czech Republic, Austria, Mexico, Aruba, the Bahamas, Vancouver B.C.,Washington D.C., Taipei, Singapore, Hong Kong, and the airports of London, Japan and Italy (amazing pizza even in the airport by the way), and of course back and forth from Seattle to New Jersey/New York. Over the years we always talked about getting married on the Great Wall of China in Beijing. After getting engaged and looking at the reality of this, we realized that might be a bit unreachable (maybe a renewing our vows trip down the road;-). We looked at some places in Seattle, and while we have happily called this home for the last 4 years , we just weren’t ‘feeling it’ for our special day. We wanted a place where everyone could escape from their daily lives and we could spend quality time with them for more than just the ceremony/reception time. At that point we sat down for some serious discussion with Mom and Dad Petty to discuss options. We had spreadsheets, diagrams, pictures, even power point presentations! After much discussion and debate we all came to the conclusion that Isla Mujeres meets the best of both worlds. It’s a place where Mom and Dad Petty visit regularly and have a familiarity with (which is extremely helpful when planning a wedding from afar, especially for the parents of the bride writing the checks)! There is sunshine, beautiful water to swim and snorkel in, sandy beaches, a laid back atmosphere, fantastic and cheap food, and its extremely easy to get around. It was kind of a no brainer.

We are working with a fantastic team of American wedding coordinators on the island to help us plan and organize everything.

As the days get closer we will be sending out more concise information from the best places to eat to the best snorkel spots. Feel free to do google your hearts out but know that Mom and Dad Petty have first hand recommendations on many things that we will share with you (feel free to ask questions on anything you may be curious about).

Welcome to our website! We are so excited to enjoy some sun and sand with you all for our special day on 11.11.11.  So get set, mark your calendars, and read on for the important info to know before you go.

Love!

Sarah and Rob
